Xchange Scotland is a youth-led charity developed by returned Scottish volunteers and others committed to making positive change in society. Since 2008, our founding members have been deeply involved in international volunteering and education projects. We seek to make young Scots more able to connect with and positively impact the world around them, near and far.

Definition of Sectarianism: Sectarianism is a way of shaping our Identity through a wide set of self-limiting attitudes and behaviours that keeps holding individuals and communities back. These attitudes and behaviours are often related to religious beliefs, backgrounds, traditions and territorial issues.

Resources: Loesje Poster-writing method

Loesje is a poster-writing method developed in Europe over the last 25 years to create texts about everything that is happens in society. It offers a collective platform for engaging in topics important for a community in a democratic and creative way. Since 2007, Loesje groups have been active in Glasgow and Edinburgh, taking part in creative, fun and thought-provoking sessions. Xchange Scotland is using it to work specially with young people from schools and youth groups throughout the Greater Glasgow area to challenge Sectarianism in a positive, critical and stimulating way.

You can find out more about Loesje on Loesje poster-writing

These posters can be used as a tool to promote dialogue or to complement any existing work on sectarianism. However, if you are going to use this resource an additional input on Sectarianism would be needed to ensure its consistency. From our work with schools and youth groups, to succeed in the process and to promote the feeling of ownership among the participants, it would require 3 hours approx.

If you have never delivered this kind of work before it will be useful to do some background research on sectarianism and to experience yourself the poster-writing process beforehand. If you want to find out more about this method and how it can benefit your work, get in touch with us.

Xchange Scotland have also shared their videos in the Interactive Zones as well as worked together with WSREC to deliver workshops with children in Glasgow which were filmed by AoS - this is also available in the Interactive Zones.
