ng homes is an award winning organisation and is the largest ‘community based’ housing association in Glasgow covering some of the most deprived areas of Scotland.  It is recognised as an ‘anchor’ within the North having responsibility for around 7,000 homes.  It’s vision for North Glasgow is to create: ‘a great place to live, learn, work, visit and invest in’. The core duties include rental of homes, property management, repairs and investment.  The association has an ‘Investment and Regeneration Team’ covering physical, social and economic activities and programmes. The association’s subsidiary programme, ng2, addresses long term unemployment issues within the area.

Through our regeneration activities we are committed to delivering community based programmes that will impact on individuals and families and promote connectedness within the community.

Statement:

The Community Football Partnerships is a Scottish Government funded anti-sectarian project that challenges negative behaviour and attitudes towards sectarianism within North Glasgow.

The project supports and complements the Scottish Government’s Action Plan on Tackling Sectarianism in Scotland and works in close collaboration with many organisations, football clubs, community groups and schools in the local area. The project uses activities such as: football, dance, art, poster – design, educational workshops and information sessions as a means to engage and raise awareness of sectarianism and challenge bigotry at all levels.NG2-Logo-GREEN

We explore the issues of sectarianism in a safe and challenging environment using examples from professional football and sport to address four key questions.

• What is sectarianism?

• How does sectarianism manifest itself in our community?

• How does sectarianism impact upon individuals and society?

• What actions can I take to deal with sectarianism?

Definition of Sectarianism:

A person is sectarian if he or she ‘adheres in a bigoted or narrow-minded fashion to a sect or body of persons who have agreed upon particular doctrines or practices’. (Oxford English Dictionary)
